Мы не знаем, лежал ли в основе алгоритмов работы Sherlock дедуктивный метод поиска или нет, но факт остаётся фактом: поиск работал, приложение вызывало неприкрытый восторг, но время не стояло на месте, появлялись новые версии Mac OS, а в процессе использования программы появлялись новые требования.
Вообще, в эти дни Apple показала миру кое-что интересное. В то время как все готовились встречать третье тысячелетие, а из каждого радиоприёмника звучали песни Cher, в элементах интерфейса наикрутейшей на то время операционной системы Mac OS с индексом «девять» появился полированный металл. QuickTime 4. Некоторые говорили, что ощущали холод металла физически. Такой красоты и единства элементов не видел ещё никто.
Sherlock 2 был основательно переработан и «переодет». В отличие от интерфейса со вкладками, использовавшегося в Mac OS 8.5 и 8.6, в новой версии использовались различные «каналы». В качестве нововведений пользователь получал возможность наиудобнейшего поиска по контактам и информации о них, поиск в новостном потоке и отдельном потоке новостей Apple, поиск в магазинах, развлечениях и прочем.

Sherlock 2 лишён возможности проверки обновлений поисковых сайтов вручную. Sherlock 2 автоматически ищет и скачивает такие обновления. Это значит, что вы больше не увидите диалоговое окно, говорящее вам о том, что есть новые версии, они просто будут установлены для вас.

Sherlock is a computerized version of logic puzzles, where you’re presented with a series of clues that help you to determine the exact locations of all the images on in the puzzle. The puzzles are all 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6. Each row of the puzzle contains images of the same type (faces, houses, numbers, fruit, street signs, letters, etc). The game scrambles the locations of the items in each row (without showing you their locations) and then presents to you a set of graphical clues that describe the positional relationships of different images. You use the clues to deduce where things can’t be (and where they HAVE to be) until you know where all the images are located.
Sherlock FREE contains 10 puzzles in each size for 30 puzzles total. The PRO version has 600 puzzles total, and the ULTRA version has 7500 puzzles total. The ZEN version has 150,000 puzzles total. The puzzles in the FREE, PRO, ULTRA, and ZEN versions are all unique, the four versions of the game share NO common puzzles.

В наши дни принято «гуглить». В конце прошлого века и в начале двухтысячных было модно другое, понятие означало примерно то же самое — «sherlocking». Название появилось само собой, после того как в 2001 году разработчики Karelia Software предложили альтернативу всемогущему Sherlock 2 — Watson.
Приложение помогало искать в Интернете, в некоторых вещах было даже лучше своего прародителя. Используя преимущества технологий OS X, Watson был удостоен множества наград от известных изданий и получил титул «Самого инновационного продукта для Mac OS X 2002».
Само собой, многие закоренелые фанаты и пользователи Mac считали, что в Karelia Software копируют интерфейс и возможности Sherlock 2. Действительно, даже название приложения было выбрано похожее по тематике. В 2004 году проект был куплен компанией Sun Microsystems, вроде бы обещали портировать приложение на платформу Java, но после покупки про Watson ничего так и не было слышно.
