Bookmarks and notebook
The bookmark menu allows you to place a bookmark on a specific page. The “My Notebook” menu lists the bookmarks and notes that you have so you can come back to them later.
Cameras: you’ll need a tablet for that
Cameras aren’t necessary for an e-reader but are standard on tablets. The iPad and iPad mini feature an 8-megapixel camera capable of panoramas, exposure control, geotagging, image stabilization, and 1080p high-definition (HD) video recording.
The NOOK Tablet 7″ also has two cameras: a front-facing VGA camera and a rear-facing 2-megapixel camera. So, if you want a camera, look beyond a simple e-reader like Kindle or NOOK GlowLight.
Font menu
The “Aa” menu is divided into four submenus (Themes, Font, Layout and More).
From here you can control the brightness options, font size, font type, layout, background color (White, Black or Sepia), text width and line spacing as well as enabling page turn animation or displaying a clock while reading. You can choose from a set of predefined themes or customize and save your own.
Highlighting, dictionary, wikipedia and translate
To highlight a word or phrase, tap and hold on it, and then release. You can then select different highlighting colors, search for the definition in a Dictionary, Wikipedia or even translate it to another language. You can also insert a note on your Notebook or copy the word or phrase and paste it somewhere else.
How to use kindle for ios as a read-later service
1. Find the article you want to save
Which app or apps are you using to read news and blogs on the web? There are a lot of possibilities. You may read in Safari or Chrome browser. You may use Feedly. Or news aggregators such as Apple News or Google Play Newsstand.
No matter which app is your favorite, all of them support the iOS share menu, which helps send the content, its part, or a link to services such as email, text message, or notes app.
2. Open share menu and select Send to Kindle
When you find an article you can’t read immediately (but want to keep for later), you can use the share menu to add it to the Kindle iOS app.
Different apps have the share icon placed in different positions. Usually, the icon shows the arrow coming up from the box.

Menus and slider
At any time, while reading the book, you can tap once in the middle of the screen to change your font, discover other reading options or leave the book.
Networking: the field narrows
Networking is where the field narrows among all these devices. All of these devices have Wi-Fi capability. The iPad, iPad mini, and Kindle PaperWhite give you the option of 4G LTE connectivity on the go, as well.
Open your kindle app
If you don’t have the Kindle App on your iPad or want to know how to download new books, follow these instructions to get you started.
Overall findings
Before you buy a device for reading e-books, have a clear idea of what you want in the device and what each product offers. For example, are you looking for:
- A thin, lightweight device dedicated to reading?
- A device that offers good visibility even in difficult environments, such as in the dark or in direct sun?
- A full-featured tablet that offers e-book reading along with web browsing, video streaming, and gaming?
- A device under $200?
Page slider
Since the Kindle App lets you choose font size, type and line spacing, instead of page numbers, the App uses location % to indicate your overall position in the book.
The slider allows you to quickly navigate the book without having to flip pages.
Popular highlights
Popular highlights are not listed in the About This Book section. If you want to find out what passages have been highlighted by other readers, tap the Menu icon and then Popular Highlights section (see the screenshot below, on the left).
When you open the window with the most popular highlights from the book, you’ll see the favorited passages accompanied by the information about how many times they were highlighted.
The feature that shares what others like in the book I’m currently reading is an inspiring way to compare your point of view with the others. It is also a great and convenient way to reread the most valuable parts of the book (besides the passages you’ve highlighted, of course).
Search menu
The magnifier menu lets you search for specific text within the book.
Sharing menu
This menu lets you share a sample of an Amazon book with a contact.
X-ray menu
X-Ray is a reference tool that allows readers to learn more about a character, event, or place. Information can be sorted out by relevance, alphabetically or in order of appearance.
Final verdict: it’s all about what you need
When you’re deciding which e-reader–capable device to buy, consider more than specs and price. After all, a device that does more of what you want and costs a bit more is a better option.
